When first starting out on the new Kitchen journey, the first thing you need to do is obtain a rough measurement of your kitchen. (See our How to Measure your kitchen sheet).
Plot your Cabinet Design. On paper, rough sketch out where you would like particular items to be placed and add any notes of special accessories you would like in your kitchen. Dare to dream and make the most of it, we can figure out the rest as we go. Be sure to think about if you want other options such as crown molding ,etc. Write notes indicating where doors and windows are located. (See our how to design your kitchen sheet)
Select Materials and styles of Cabinetry. Look at our selection of Door Styles (Don't forget to examine Drawer Front options- Drawer fronts can be different in some cases, such as slab drawer fronts vs a 5 piece design) Slab drawer fronts allow for a wider selection of decorative hardware and creates a nice look. Also consider the wood species that you like as well as would you prefer Framed or Frameless Cabinets as well as the overlay type. Remember to look at different paint and stain colors as well, to make a decision about what your preference is. We have much information regarding How To Sheets to help assist you on all of these many decisions!
If you desire to change the footprint of your area, make a list of everything that needs to be changed in order for this to occur. Consider things such as lighting, appliances moving to new locations (associated plumbing and/or electrical), if walls will be moved and flooring that may need to be replaced or patched based on the new layout.
Measure your appliances width x height x depth if reusing the existing appliances. If buying new appliances, select which ones you will be purchasing, as the kitchen design is based around the appliances. If purchasing new appliances, be sure to obtain the full specification sheets, as we will need a copy of each appliance before the final design.
Request a quote from us. Include your design plans, kitchen measurements, appliance measurements or specifications, Door Style options, Paint or Stain selections (request up to 2 color samples), Existing Kitchen Photos.
Plan what you will do with your current cabinets and Appliances. Will you sell them or donate them? (starting that process should be done about the time we notify you to schedule the demo or just prior to Installation date) Consider contacting Habitat for Humanity- who will pick up your old cabinetry, saving you time and a landfill charge if the cabinets are still in good condition.
Contact other subcontractors that you may need for your project - Plumbers, Electricians, Painters, Flooring Installers or whomever else will be needed to handle what you need to accomplish. Get them on schedule to get done what needs to be done.
