How To Clean Your Cabinets

1. Most spots can be removed with a mild soap and water and a soft cloth.

2. For tough stains and grease:

  • Wash the cabinets down with warm soapy water using a damp cloth.
  • Rinse down the doors and panels with warm water and wipe dry.
  • For sticky grease, use a solution of 1 cup white vinegar and 2 cups of hot water. Soak the cloth in the solution, wring out and wipe the areas. Dry with a soft cloth.
  • If the spot is super sticky, use the vinegar undiluted, rinse with clear water and dry.

3. For Natural wood products- use Murphy's Oil Soap which will cut through the grease and stains on wood. Be aware it too can leave a sticky residue. Be sure to wipe off excess!

*When wood becomes hard to clean, this is typically because the finish has become damaged to the point where water can seep through to the wood itself. And if the finish is cracked or peeling, refinishing or replacing may be what's required next.

4. On Painted Cabinets- use mild dish soap and warm water on a very damp cloth. Dry well.

5. Laminates- Clean with mild soap and water and dry well. Grease can be diluted with white vinegar. Spray the vinegar using a spray bottle that has a fine mist. Allow it to work for 5 minutes, then wipe clean.

6. Glass Doors- use a solution of 50% distilled white vinegar and 50% water or commercial glass cleaner with ammonia. If mounted on a wood door frame, be sure to avoid the wood frame and surrounding cabinet parts. Wipe down the frame promptly if the overspray occurs. If the glass doors have mullions, do not spray directly onto the glass, spray a small amount onto a soft cloth or lint free paper towel and wipe the glass using that. Dry right away.

7. Clean the inside of the cabinets with a solution of 1 part unscented bleach to 9 parts water. When handling bleach, always wear rubber gloves and open the windows for ventilation. Wipe down the interior and shelves. Soak and ring out the rag frequently to ensure full disinfectant coverage. When you have finished applying the bleach solution. Use fresh clear water and a clean cloth to rinse all areas. Soak and wring out your cloth often. Wipe up any excess with paper towels.

8. Allow all surfaces to dry thoroughly before restocking with dishes or food items.
