Cabinetry Care

Cabinets Plus LLC creates cabinets that last, but it takes good care to make them stay as beautiful as when first installed for years to come. With proper care your cabinets will deliver years of beauty, enjoyment and convenience.

As with any product constructed of wood, a routine care plan goes along way in keeping them looking their best! Here are a few suggestions:

  • Wipe up spills, splatters and water spots as they occur with a dry to very damp cloth.
  • Keep surfaces dry at all times, giving special attention to areas near the sink and dishwasher and any area that is directly exposed to moisture.
  • Only use cleaners and polishes designed for wood cabinets, otherwise only use a very slightly damp cloth.
  • When nicks or scratches or nicks first appear, use a touch up marker to restrain small scratches and a putty stick to fill minor nicks and dents. If you need assistance with color matching or to purchase the correct product, please send us an email with a photo of a door to show the color. It is always best to bring a door or drawer front to the shop, especially if we do not have your cabinets on file. Also if the issue is larger than a small nick, please bring the damaged item to the shop for a quote to repair.

STOPPING PROBLEMS BEFORE THEY OCCUR…

  • Do Not use Abrasive Cleaners, scouring pads or powdered cleaners.
  • Do Not use aerosol cleaners containing silicones or paste wax.
  • Do Not hang wet towels or dish cloths off the cabinet doors or near them.
  • Do Not allow oven cleaners to spray onto the cabinets.

Remedies for Common Kitchen Accidents:

  • Food or Water Spots: Clean as needed with soap and water (sparingly) and dry well using a lint-free cloth (one to wash, one to dry). Or use only cleaners designed for wood cabinets.
  • Greasy Spots: Using a Cleaner for wood cabinets, rub the spot with a damp cloth.
  • Chewing Gum & Candle Wax: Apply a plastic bag of ice on top of the area until it is brittle enough to crumble off. Wipe off with a lint free cloth.
  • Scratches & Cigarette Burns: Use a wood repair kit. Rub the area gently with a ultra fine sandpaper until you have removed the damage. Re-stain with color matched stain and apply a light coat of clear sealer to finish. For Painted cabinets, call the office as we use a lacquer based paint and any other type of base can cause a chemical reaction. If the damage is on a door or drawer front, it is best to bring the item(s) to the shop for professional repair.
